Why visit East Bali?
East Bali is a 2–2.5 hour drive from Kuta, so it's usually a full day trip or the start of an overnight journey. The roads are quieter, the scenery more dramatic, and the temples less commercialised. Your driver will handle the long drive while you watch the landscape change from rice fields to coastal villages to volcanic slopes.

💦 Tirta Gangga Water Palace
A stunning royal water palace built by the last King of Karangasem in 1948. Tiered pools, fountains, and stone statues set against rice terraces and Mount Agung.
🏔️ Lempuyang Temple (Gates of Heaven)
The famous 'Gates of Heaven' photo spot with Mount Agung reflected between two temple doors. Expect queues, but the setting is genuinely magical.
⛱️ Amed & Virgin Beach
Black volcanic sand beaches with excellent snorkelling. Amed is also a popular base for diving the USAT Liberty shipwreck off Tulamben.
🌊 Candidasa
A quieter coastal town with a relaxed pace, local fishing harbour, and offshore snorkelling reefs. A great lunch stop before heading back.
Recommended Tour
East Bali is best as a Full Day Tour or combined into a multi-day charter. Leave Kuta or Seminyak by 7–7:30am to make the most of the day. Some travellers choose to spend the night in Amed and have a different driver take them back the next day.
